Painting the Whirling Wonder – Morgan’s Wonderland

Baynum Painting recently had the privilege to work along with our friends at Ride Entertainment Group to refurbish the awesome new Whirling Wonder Ferris Wheel at Morgan’s Wonderland – the World’s First Ultra Accessible Theme Park.  Whirling Wonder is a 5 & 1/2 story high ride, featuring wheel-chair accessible gondolas so all park guests can enjoy!  We absolutely love this beautiful park, located in Austin Texas.  Be sure to check it out, they’re opening for the 2016 season this weekend! Whirling Wondermw-logo-toyota7

Gel Coating water slides

Water park ride surfaces are subjected to some of the most brutal conditions in the amusement industry.  From harsh UV exposure, submersion in chlorinated water, and near constant guest traffic during peak season, it’s no wonder these rides end up looking so tired and worn out!  gel coat before after

A key component to maintaining not only a water slide’s aesthetic appeal, but also it’s functional integrity – comes from the regular inspection and restoration of worn out fiberglass surfaces, via gel coating.

From sand-blasting and stripping off previously applied coatings along with the original top layer of factory finish, to properly cleaning and preparing the surface for it’s new top coat, there are many important steps required in order to achieve a beautiful and long lasting finish that can proudly be displayed for years to come.

Baynum Painting has 30+ years of history as the amusement industry’s premier coating specialist, and contacting our team of composite coating experts is the best choice you can make when it’s time to maintain your slides and rides.

Check out the video below of gel coating specialist Adam Million applying a much needed new finish on a water slide:

Painting a giant frisbee – Delirium at Kings Island

Just in time for the park’s exciting 2014 opening, Baynum Painting’s team has completed a repaint of the giant frisbee ride structure known as Delirium at Kings Island.  We think the 137′ high ride looks excellent with it’s glossy new coat of color, and can’t wait to ride it along with the freshly painted Bat, Xtreme Skyflyer, and Banshee this weekend!

Painting a Skycoaster (Xtreme Skyflyer) at Kings Island

Found in many of the greatest Amusement Parks around the world, will be a version of Ride Entertainment Group‘s Skycoaster –  which is an awesome pendulum swing ride consisting of a huge steel arch, and a pair of lift cable towers.  Kings Island in Mason OH has one known as Xtreme Skyflyer, which is currently getting a fresh paint job from Baynum Painting’s crew.  While the lower sections are aerial lift accessible, the high arch and top of the cable towers can only be accessed via good old fashioned climbing and rigging.  Shown here are some photos of our skilled team in action, preparing the surface, priming with PPG’s Amerlock 2 epoxy, then and applying a shiny new finish coat of Amercoat 450H.

What a fun project, and what a view from the top!

Painting Silver Bullet at Knott’s Berry Farm

Baynum Painting has been having an extremely busy winter during the typical “off season” in the Amusement Park industry!  We are currently painting roller coasters in California, Texas, and Ohio, and have several upcoming rides to paint in Pennsylvania, Texas, Illinois, Florida, with even more at our favorite parks in Ohio.

One awesome ride we just finished is the 146′ tall B&M coaster Silver Bullet at Knott’s.  Having recoated the ride entirely at night over the course of several weeks in January, the fresh coat of PPG’s PSX-700 looks absolutely incredible.  Check out some in-progress and finished shots of this great ride:
